There’s something about having fresh flowers at home that instantly lifts the mood. A little color on the counter, a soft scent by the sink—it’s such a simple way to bring joy into the everyday. I try to keep flowers around as often as I can, and one of my favorite little rituals is grabbing a bouquet at the grocery store and giving it a quick refresh at home.
With a few simple tweaks, even the most basic bunch can feel like it came from your favorite neighborhood flower shop. Whether you’re styling an entryway, setting the table, or just treating yourself to something pretty, these are my go-to tips for making grocery store flowers feel special.

1. Edit before you arrange.
Start by unwrapping the bouquet and taking stock of what you have. Remove any leaves that would sit below the water line and pull out any stems that feel like filler or overpower the rest. A little editing goes a long way in making the bouquet feel curated rather than crowded.
2. Recut the stems.
Trim each stem at an angle so they can better absorb water. Vary the lengths slightly to give your arrangement a more organic, layered feel—nothing too perfect or stiff.
3. Choose a vase that fits the vibe.
Skip the default glass cylinder and reach for something with charm: a ceramic pitcher, a vintage jar, or even a bud vase. A beautiful vessel instantly makes your flowers feel more intentional and styled.
4. Add greenery or texture.
Clip a few sprigs from your yard or herb garden—eucalyptus, rosemary, olive branches, or even leafy stems can add movement and texture. This small step helps your arrangement feel fuller and more unique.
5. Arrange with heart.
For me, arranging flowers is a little therapeutic—it’s quiet, creative, and just for me. I like to start with greenery as the base, layer in my focal blooms, and then tuck in smaller flowers to fill the gaps. I let the stems do what they want—arching this way and that—and I don’t overthink it. The beauty is in the imperfection.
