A few weeks ago I took the kids on a last-minute trip to the western coast of Europe for a week in Portugal. We spent the first half of the week enjoying the pristine beaches of Comporta, an uber-chic destination that it seems is on everyone’s bucket list these days. Comporta is a 60 to 90-minute drive from Lisbon and is known for its rice paddies, white & blue minimalist architecture, and preserved coastline.
Traveling with kids, especially internationally can be overwhelming… sharing a few tips on traveling with littles in tow. From what to pack, how to travel, and everything in between.
A Guide to a Few Dats in Comporta Portugal:
The mornings were spent wandering town enjoying freshly baked pastries, squeezed orange juice & macchiatos (why does it seem that everything just tastes better in Europe?), and popping into local shops (my favorite here!). By noon we were tucked away under thatched umbrellas on the beach (the best beach club here.. ps add a lunch res while you’re at it!) and the kids enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear water of the Atlantic. We found our way to a couple amazing restaurants in the evenings. A few of my favorites included Comporta Cafe, Sal, and dinner at Sublime.
We stayed at a nearby Airbnb this trip and would definitely recommend it when traveling with kids. Noteworthy hotels of design interest include Sublime Comporta (a magical retreat tucked away in the pine & cork trees), Quinta Da Comporta, and Spatia Comporta.
After our time in Comporta, we went back to Lisbon for a few days of exploring … read my blog recap here of our time in Lisbon.
