I have always gravitated towards coffee table books for inspiration, color and decor. By adding a simple stack of books, you can quickly elevate a coffee table, dresser or bedside table. Coffee table books can be affordable to source from thrift shops, antique stores and online. These books are a simple addition to any vignette & will make an impactful difference! I collect books when we travel and they also serve for a great conversation pieces! It’s always fun to look back at places we’ve travelled to and even scheme our next adventure!
Here are five tips for decorating and styling with coffee table books:
- Group Books by Color
- It’s no shock that I have always been a fan of color, but I love using coffee table books to incorporate accent colors or in neutral spaces provide a little pop of color. I’m always creating stacks out of similar colorways to bring a pop of color into a space.
- Mix up the sizes
- When stacking books I always try to go from largest to smallest. First, it’s always more stable (especially with kids) but it also allows you to showcase each book a bit more. I have found that 3-5 books in a stack look best! If you have smaller books I suggest actually stacking them together on a smaller surface (side table or nightstand), just not too high.
- Use coffee table books as a riser for anything
- Books can also be used as a platform or riser for other items such as vases, candles, jewelry boxes, etc. Especially if they are lacking height on their own.
- Don’t be afraid to look under the book jacket
- One of my favorite coffee table books has the most incredible book cover, but I would have never discovered it unless I removed the book jacket. I tend to remove all my book jackets as I like the look of the natural fiber covers. But of course have a few exceptions for some beautifully designed dust jackets.
- Swap them out
- One thing about decorating with books is that they are easy to move around. So whether you choose to swap your books out seasonally or change up the colors in certain areas – it’s fairly easy to do so!
