We recently hosted the sweetest gingerbread house decorating party for my nearly nine-year-old. It came together quite easily with these gingerbread house kits, a bit of frosting, and A LOT of candy. Our gingerbread party was inspired by Pizzazzeries Gingerbread Tea Party! Here’s how I put a Mary&Crew Spin on it!

What You Will Need
- Gingerbread House Kit – I love this one
- Hot Glue Gun (this one is great because its dual temp if you have little ones)
- Cake Decorating Tool
- White craft paper roll for the table to help with clean up
- Candy – Here are some fun ones I found that you can order online.
The Best Royal Icing
Ingredients:
- 3 large egg whites – room temperature, (or 1/2 cup liquid egg whites)
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 5 cups powdered sugar
- Instructions:
- using an electric mixer with the whisk attachment beat together egg whites and cream of tartar on medium speed.
- Slowly add in powdered sugar a cup at a time and whisk for about 3-4 minutes or until the mixture is fluffy (forming stiff peaks). You may need to add more powdered sugar if the icing is too loose. If it becomes too thick – add a teaspoon of water to thin it out
- Note: the icing dries quickly so keep the bowl of icing covered with a damp cloth while using. If it starts to set just give it a quick stir and you’re good to go!
Tips and Tricks
- one of the best hacks for assembling these gingerbread houses is to use a hot glue gun! No more waiting for the frosting to dry in hopes it holds together. (do not worry about it being perfect as the icing will cover all imperfections)
- once the houses are assembled I use this decorating tool to pipe the icing to give it the whimsical gingerbread look
- lay out some white craft paper to help with clean up, put your gingerbread houses on the table, spread out the candy, and have some FUN!!
If baked gingerbread houses are not your thing here are a few fun gingerbread-related craft options

- color your own gingerbread house (great for a group)
