One of my favorite events to host for my family and kids is a backyard movie night! We call up friends, the kids classmates and teammates and make a night of it. There is something so special about curling up in the backyard on a comfy pillow with a box of popcorn. One of my other favorite things about a movie night is that it really is pretty simple to set up, all you need is a few things (which many you probably have around the house) to make the event a hit! And I’ll order pizzas for the kids and whip up as easy make ahead dinner and snacks for the adults.
Here is what you need to host an outdoor movie night
- First things first, you will need a projector and screen (although you can easily use a bed sheet).
- We have had this projector for years and have loved using it! And this screen is fabulous! I also love when we bring this set up to Palms Springs and can do a poolside movie night, with floats and popsicles.
- Then you need to set up a cozy area to curl up and watch the movie!
- I like to generally lay out a few big blankets to cover the grass (I love these because they’re washable and durable) and then pop on TONS of floor pillows. I purchased these from Amazon and they worked great!
- Lastly Snacks!
- Arguably the most important part of the evening according to my kids! I typically try to stay away from candy but if it’s requested I will pull out these! Then popcorn is a must (this is my go-to organic brand!) And these popcorn containers make it extra cute!
- I also love making graze boards for the kids. A mix of healthy-ish snacks that they can nibble on through the evening!
