Is there anything more magical than fall in Europe – maybe it’s September in Paris! The weather is still warm, but there is a light crisp in the air. The gardens are still in bloom but the leaves have begun to change. Parisians have returned from the summer holidays and the city is humming with life.
Packing for this season calls for a well-thought-out capsule wardrobe that blends style and practicality. Essentials include a timeless trench coat, soft knit sweaters, tailored trousers or skirts, and comfortable yet chic walking shoes for exploring cobblestone streets. Layering is key as the weather transitions, allowing you to move from cool mornings to warm afternoons, all while maintaining that effortless Parisian flair.

One Ideal Day in Paris in September
An ideal September day in Paris, where you start with a stroll through the Tuileries. Pick up a croissant, and make your way to Le Bon Marché, the city’s iconic department store. After browsing the chic displays and perhaps grabbing a Parisian accessory or two, you stop for a mid-morning noisette at one of the nearby cafés, and people watch. For lunch, you head to the stylish Perruche, where the views of the city are absolutely spectacular. In the afternoon, explore the quaint streets of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, perhaps with a stop at a Buly or Marin Montagut. As night falls, dinner is at the charming La Fontaine de Mars, where you’ll enjoy classic French fare—beneath the soft glow of string lights. If you are lucky, pass by the Eiffel Tower on the way home to see it sparkle.
What to Pack
When packing for trips I always try and stick to a color pallet that allows me to mix and match each piece easily. For this capsule wardrobe, I went with the European staples black and white with a pop of signature red.
