We’ve been long anticipating this trip and the wedding of two close friends of ours in Dingle, Ireland. This is our family’s third trip to Ireland, the last was in 2018 and the one before was in 2015. In the past we could easily fly direct to Dublin but flights from the US have become few and far between lately (I’m sure in part due to pandemic complications). This time we connected through LHR and had a quick connection from London to Dublin. We stayed the first night at a hotel near the airport knowing it would be a long travel day and be quickly off to bed. The next morning we rented a car (automatic of course) and were off to one of our favorite spots, Dromoland Castle. Its a breathtaking estate that has been welcoming guests since the 16th century. You can stay for afternoon tea, dinner, a round of golf or check in for evening (or three!) in one of the rooms or suites in the castle.
Upon arrival we were greeted with the most fabulous afternoon tea. Scones, pastries, finger sandwiches, teas, coffee and hot chocolate for the kids. The setting is even more dreamy than you’d imagine. Plush covered settes and chairs, a crackling fire, Barbour wellies by the door for wandering down to the lake, a secret garden and a staircase fit for a king (and queen!). After tea we explored the property and refreshed before dinner. I love traveling east with the kids, the time change makes it so much easier to keep them up into the late hours of the evening. We all enjoyed dinner in the renowned Earl of Thomond dining room and drinks in the oh so charming cocktail bar.
I packed a few pieces from J.McLaughlin’s new collection for the trip. This chambray embroidered dress is perfect for transitioning into spring and the wicker bag with the bamboo handle is match made in Mary&Crew heaven. My mules are a sophistictd neutral essential for being on the go.
The secret garden was prepped for winter but a few signs of spring were already on their way. I’m still dreaming of our time spent at the castle and will be sure to go back the next time we visit.
