Late Summer in Europe: What to Pack When Every Day Looks Different
There is something about a late-summer trip to Europe that requires a wardrobe that can do everything — and somehow still look effortless doing it. Switzerland in August means crisp alpine mornings that warm into golden afternoons. England means the kind of soft, unpredictable light that makes everything look like a painting, and occasions that swing from muddy Cotswolds footpaths to Afternoon Tea at The Ritz all within the same long weekend.
Packing for a trip like this — is less about bringing more and more about bringing right. When you’re moving between a valley hotel in the Swiss Alps, a charming Cotswolds village, and the streets of Notting Hill, every piece in your bag needs to earn its place. For me, that means reaching for the classics I always reach for: clean silhouettes, considered color, and fabrics that travel beautifully without announcing that they’ve been living in a suitcase.

A few pieces doing the heavy lifting on this trip: the tank top I liked so much I went back for every color — endlessly mixable with skirts, trousers, and denim. A classic Breton tee at a price point that makes it a no-brainer. The carry-on tote I won’t travel without, with more pockets than I’ll ever actually need. And the sandals that have crossed the Atlantic more than once — city-walking approved and still going strong.
